The Pontaniana Academy

The digitization phase of ancient texts has begun in the library of the Pontaniana Academy based in Naples, in Via Mezzocannone 8, which also belongs jointly to a second body: the National Society of Sciences, Letters and Arts in Naples. The idea of ​​adding this library is from Prof. Leonardo Merola, who proposed it in 2023.

The Pontaniana Academy and the National Society are associated with the National Academic Union (UAN) which includes the 15 main Italian Academies. The two bodies carry out intense scientific and cultural activity which is reflected in academic sessions, publications and the promotion and hosting of conferences, lectures, seminars each within the scope of their mission which includes the discussion, promotion and diffusion of science and culture.

The digitization activities focuses on 6 incunabula and 183 sixteenth-century books from the Torraca collection, which belonged to Francesco and Luigi Torraca and was later donated to the Pontaniana Academy.
